Ruby Y. Takushi, Ph.D

Ruby Takushi, Ph.D. has been licensed as a psychologist in Washington since 1999. She received her doctorate in clinical psychology from Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, CA. She completed her APA-approved clinical internship with the University of Tennessee Psychology Internship Consortium in 1990, followed by a two-year postdoctoral specialization in Group Psychotherapy at St. Elizabeths Hospital in Washington, D.C. From 1992-1996, Dr. Takushi served on the faculty of Howard University during which time she was also licensed as a psychologist in the District of Columbia and worked at D.C. General Hospital Methadone Clinic for Women. Upon moving to Seattle in 1996 she trained in research at the Addictive Behavior Research Center at the University of Washington and published in the field of gambling addiction and cross-cultural counseling.

Dr. Takushi served on the board of the Evergreen Council for Problem Gambling from 2001-2010 and has served on the board of the Recovery Café, a non-profit agency in Seattle, since its inception. She currently serves as the Director of Programs for the Recovery Café and teaches counseling in the School of Theology and Ministry at Seattle University.

Dr. Takushi’s practice is aimed at adults and she offers individual psychotherapy for a range of anxiety and mood disorders, with a specialization in the treatment of addictive behaviors.  Her approach integrates an appreciation for the physical, psychological, relational, and spiritual as essential elements of mental health.
